DIY Playroom Art Wall

Decorating our new finished basement playroom space has been so much fun!  I have pinned things for a year but executing is usually my problem.  I decided I wanted to display the kids' artwork on the wall.  There were several ideas I contemplated trying- various frames, clipboards, something magnetic-but ultimately I decided to go with a Picasso quote and rope with clothespins displaying the artwork.

I absolutely love how it turned out. Ryan is so excited to see his artwork hanging up!  For days, every time we went down to play, he would light up as he saw the wall and exclaim "I did that!"  My heart melts!

Want to try it out?  It is a super easy DIY project thanks to Michael's, Amazon and Etsy!

What you need:
  • Rope
  • Nails
  • Scissors
  • Hammer
  • Clothespins (you can paint your own or buy them colored.  I got mine colored off amazon. I put the link below.)

I nailed the rope to the wall and hid the nails by twisting it back over the nail.  Super easy and it looks cute!

The Picasso quote was purchased on Etsy from seller BushCreative

This is one of those DIY's that takes 20 minutes but wows people whey they see it!  It was well worth the time and money to do!

Crockpot Lasagna- Adapted to be Gluten Free

I have started a love affair with my crockpot.  With 2 kids, my time to cook dinner is limited and they always seem to be their craziest right around dinner time. I have started preparing dinner during Ryan’s nap and it has changed my life.   There is nothing better than having dinner all ready as soon as we are hungry!  I use my crockpot 2-3 days a week and it has made a huge difference in my life!

My friend shared this veggie lasagna recipe for the crockpot and I modified it to add in ground beef. I dont ever thing I will go back to baking my lasagna!  It is so juicy and easy to make!!
Alex is gluten free so I adapted the recipe to include gluten free noodles

Gluten Free Crockpot Lasagna
  • 2 jars or cans of Italian tomato sauce (see notes)
  • 1 package of gluten free lasagna noodles
  • 24 ounces part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1 lb ground beef or veggies of your choice(I like to sautee spinich)
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella
  • Spray the crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. Spread ½ cup tomato sauce to the bottom so the noodles don’t stick.
  • Break noodles so that they fit and mostly cover the bottom. They will probably be awkward looking – not a big deal.
  • Cover with about one third of the ricotta, beef, sauce, cheese, and end with noodles.
  • Repeat layers two more times for a total of three complete layers. End with a layer of noodles on top, covered with a thin layer of sauce and more shredded cheese.
  • Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5 hours.
Enjoy and serve!

Stitch Fix Unboxing #2

I got my second fix from Stitch Fix today!  Waiting for the mailman to come and bring me my clothes feels like an eternity.  My stylist, Nicole, did a great job of assessing my style and picking things that were my style yet a little out of my comfort zone.

Here’s what I got:

Sweet Romeo Altona Open Drape Cardigan– My favorite in the fix!  It is super comfy, warm and has pockets.  Who doesn’t love pockets?!  I love the burgundy color even though I wasn't sure about it until I put it on.

Verdict: Kept

Papermoon Tigard Lace Back Knit Top-  I really liked the back of this one but I feel like the front did nothing for me.  It was a bit too boxy.  I debated about what to do with this one since the lace was so pretty and totally my style.

Verdict: Sent back

Ijoah Zada Knit Top– Love this one!  It is so comfortable and just my style! I imagine myself wearing this a lot in the fall and spring.  The material is so soft and I love the coral and navy color combination.

Verdict: Kept

RD Style Ridge Zipper Detail Cowl Neck Sweater- I pinned this one so I was super excited to get it.  I think it would look great paired with leggings. There is a cute zipper detail on the sleeves that I didn't capture in the picture.

Verdict: Kept

Daniel Rainn Pam Lattice Detail Blouse- I asked for a shirt for a date night and they sent this.  Um, no.  I hated everything about it and don’t think it would really”wow” my husband.
Verdict: Sent back

This fix was a solid 3/5. I wrote detailed notes about what I liked and didn’t like and requested the same stylist so we will see what next fix brings.

Life's a Beach!

We did an abbreviated annual beach trip this past weekend.  All summer, I drooled over my Facebook friends' pictures at the beach and dreamed of our turn.  Ava still was not sleeping through the night and my  hope was that she would be by the time we went down the shore.  Unfortunately, the sleep thing is still a work in progress but we went to the shore anyway!

We planned our trip for Thursday through Sunday and after weeks and weeks of a hot, drought we seemed to pick 4 days of cooler, rainy temperatures.  Alex ended up changing his days off to Friday-Monday so we could at least get somewhat better weather. Turns out, Monday was freezing down the beach.  Doesn’t it always work out that way?  We still had a great time and it was so much fun to get away and relax as a family.  Ryan had an absolute blast and Ava is still warming up to the idea of the beach.  It is so much fun experiencing these things though them!

My mom and grandma came, too and it was very nice to have the extra sets of hands!
Ryan loves them so much and it is fun to see that bond form!

All I wanted was a nice family picture. This was the best one we got in 4 days…
